Hi! My name is Jess Johnson. My husband Kyle and I live in Western North Dakota with our three young daughters. He is passionate about agriculture and has been working in that industry for over 20 years. Together we live and raise racing bred Quarter Horses on a piece of land where his Aunt and Uncle lived for 43 years, just down the road from the original family homestead. Kyle is the 4th generation here!

I am a StoryWay Guide because I was seeking a path to help tell our daughter, Henley’s, story. Henley was born with a rare genetic disorder that caused her bone marrow to fail and she required a bone marrow transplant in her first year of life. Through the StoryWay training I realized I have always had a strong interest in other people’s stories and I didn’t just want to tell Henley’s story, I wanted to help others tell their stories too. 

My favorite legacy or story moment with a client was seeing a client relive and redefine her relationship with her father. The interview process allowed her to reflect on their relationship and realize how much her father truly loved her. The joy in her face during that moment is one I will never forget.

Writing is a second career for me. I spent just shy of 13 years as a Police Officer and this is where my interest in helping people and a true curiosity for people and their lives began. I often found myself asking, what is their story? How will this moment change their lives in the future? In addition to writing, I have a very active photography business and believe this is also an excellent storytelling tool.
