Certifications:  Legacy Guide

Hi! My name is Vicki Prentice. Please allow me to introduce myself.

I am a child of God, and I give Him all the praise and glory for who He is making me. He is the ultimate Story Writer and I find it fascinating to see how He keeps adding to my story day by day.

I am the wife of Bob “Mr. Attitude” Prentice. Bob and I have lived in the small South Dakota town of Wessington for the past 21 years. We celebrated 41 years of marriage in November 2019. On December 26, 2019, we celebrated 30 years in business together–he being the ‘front man’, and I, content to be the ‘woman behind the man’. For the better part of that time, I have assisted Bob in business, employing my creative abilities to design websites, e-newsletters, print newsletters and all of his print marketing pieces and classroom materials. In addition, I have done the layout and design on two books–one a compilation of articles Bob has written, and the other a coloring book.

I am Mom to three wonderful children and the most awesome son-in-law one could ask for–and best of all, they all live within a couple of blocks from me! I am also grandmother to two beautiful granddaughters and four handsome grandsons, ranging in age from seven to 14.

My story of how I came to be a StoryWay Guide goes back a couple of years. I ran across a post on Facebook and this guy named Jeremy Brown who was looking for someone to do some design work for his company. I went to his website and then contacted him. We got pretty far into the interview process, but then I was contacted by a former employer, the publisher of The Miller Press, and asked to come back there as their full time writer.

Getting back into the writing chair at the newspaper, I was quickly reminded that my most favorite part is writing feature stories–the woman turning 100, the man retiring after 35 years at the bank; the student who went on a missions trip, etc. I simply love hearing people’s stories and then writing about them!

Fast forward to about a year and my husband saw another post of Jeremy's on Facebook, this time advertising the a course to certify legacy guides. I watched the video and I felt this was something I really wanted to do, so I contacted Jeremy and after a phone interview, I was accepted into the class. I was among the first group of StoryWay Guides to be certified in April 2019.

I am convinced and fascinated by the idea that everyone has a story and everyone’s story should be told.

My mission is to help people tell the stories that make up their lives, because I believe the people telling their story will better see the true significance and importance of their life as they take time to honestly reflect on their life stories. I believe the older generation has a vast amount of wisdom and knowledge born out of experience that the younger generations need to know about and I want to be a part of making that happen for families.
